This is the scapular which was described to the stigmatist Marie-Julie Jahenny during one of her ecstasies of August 23, 1878. In brief, the scapular was given to the world as a sacramental which would “be as a lightning rod” under which the blows of Just and Divine Wrath will not fall.
It is recommended that it be worn, but it can also be displayed in a home or a church, or even carried on one’s person. Our Lady in speaking about it to the stigmatist said that “…this scapular will be a new protection for the times of the chastisements.”
As part of the devotion attached to the Purple Scapular, our Lord instructed Marie-Julie to have “people meditate for at least 2- 3 minutes on His Passion, and to say the ‘CRUX AVE’ prayer 5 or 7 times daily.
“O, Crux Ave! Spes unica! Et Verbum caro factum est!”
O Jesus, vanquisher of death, save us!”
