FINALLY! TLM for Kankakee Area

It’s been a long time coming!

Father Matthew Pratscher writes:

“You have been praying a long time. So here is the good news, and feel free to share it with others:

“The traditional Latin Mass will be celebrated at St. John Paul II on Sundays at 3pm and during the week at noon on Wednesdays and Fridays, starting Sunday, January 3, 2021, the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus.

“We still ask that everybody respect the instructions given by the bishop regarding the pandemic.”

How long has it been?  As far as I know, it’s been approximately THIRTY years that some of the faithful have been praying and working for the restoration of a regularly scheduled TLM in Kankakee.  The work has included writing to bishops, petitions, having a guest speaker give presentations on the traditional Latin Mass, blogs, and a self-published book.

It was only after 2007, that we were allowed one, and eventually two TLM’s per year, celebrated by visiting priests.  But we have never gotten discouraged. God wills that the TLM be resurrected to take its proper place in the Church once more.  Really, all it takes is a priest willing and able to celebrate it; and God has finally sent us that priest, Fr. Pratscher!

Please spread the word for this first Sunday Mass of the year – and thereafter, every Sunday, same time, same place.

Place: JPII church (once St. Martin Church),  907 S. 9th Ave. Kankakee, Il

Note: The church is not very pretty.  Originally, it was built to be the grade-school’s gym,

You are at the foot of Calvary; join your heart to the sorrowful Mother’s and pray accordingly.

so you can imagine. But with piety and devotion on the part of the priest and the faithful, it can be turned into heaven on earth!

And don’t forget that the TLM will also be celebrated on Wednesdays and Fridays  at noon.

We will be off to a great start in the New Year!  Let everybody know!
