“The Pope is about to propose to Bp. Fellay the institution of an Ordinariate….”

…in order to regularize the situation of the FSSPX…., granting them full …. autonomy…

Our friends at Rorate have launched a most commendable appeal for prayers that our Holy Father’s desires for the regularization of the SSPX be fulfilled.  Please, take rosary in hand and start fingering those beads!  Remember that our Lady has promised that whatever is asked by means of the rosary will be granted!  You can read the Rorate Caeli post here:

An Informative Set of Videos on Receiving Communion

The two following videos were pointed out to me recently and they really shed light on the situation of receiving communion in the hand and why it is best to receive on the tongue.  Anybody who claims belief in the Real Presence cannot deny the facts.   I find it hard to believe that someone will wantonly continue receiving in the hand after watching these.

Do you believe that God is really present in the Eucharist?  In each tiny particle?  If not, “Let him be anathema!”

Thank you, Holy Father! Now, is there any way you can make ’em listen to you?

Please tell me if you think this papal letter will have positive affects in your typical parish.  Or will it be ignored and dismissed as just mere, personal opinion of the  Pope?

The article starts out with this statement: “Pope Benedict XVI has reminded church musicians of the primacy of Gregorian chant in the Mass, describing it “as the supreme model of sacred music.”

Thank you, Fr. Farfaglia, and others!!

Father Stravinskas’s opposition to home-schooling ( and the Tridentine Mass) is no surprise.    I was told about his opposition to both, way back in October after he preached a retreat in Michigan.

Thank God that we do find support among some of our clergy!  See here.  And here.  And here.

Fr. Stravinskas’ nonsense about psychological damage to children remaining with their self-sacrificing, dedicated, staunchly Catholic mothers for too long, is a statement one would expect from a nanny- state socialist. May I remind Fr. Stravinskas that Our Lord remained with his Mother until he was 33.

Spiritual Direction from the Saints

St. Francis de Sales:

Believe me, the mortification of the senses – of the sight, the hearing, the tongue – is more beneficial than to wear a chain of iron or a hairshirt.

One of the things which keeps us far from perfection is, without a doubt, our tongue.  When one has arrived at that point that he does not sin with the tongue, he is perfect, according to the Holy Ghost.  This is why we must speak little and well – little and with simplicity, with charity, and in a manner that will make virtue appear amiable.

Do not think too highly of your own ideas.  If your advice is asked, give it frankly, but with perfect indifference as to whether it be followed or rejected.

All that we do receives it value from our conformity to the will of God; for instance, if I take recreation because it is the will of God, I merit more than if I suffered death without having that intention.  Keep well in your mind this thought and remember it in all your actions..It is thus you will do all with perfection.

If it happens that you say or do something which is not well received by all, you should not for this reason reflect much upon it, because it is beyond a doubt that it is self-love which makes us seek to be approved in what we say or do.  Simplicity abandons to Providence the success of actions done for Him.

There is a certain manner of prayer most simple and very useful; it is, to be habitually in the presence of God.  And this sight of God will produce in us an intimate union with Him, a simple and perfect intention.  Oh, how precious is this manner of prayer.

Other saints:

The holiest man is not he who holds the holiest station, but he who best fulfils the duties of the state in which divine Providence has placed him.                                                                                                                  – St. Lidwine

Constant fidelity in little things is a great and heroic virtue.                                                                                                                                        –  St. Bonaventure

“Paenitentia maxima vita communis,“ – “My greatest penance is the ordinary life.”                                                                     – St. John Berchmans

In our various employments and in the cares which attend them, we must not be disquieted nor act with haste.  Devote a reasonable and moderate attention to them, and then leave them to divine Providence.  Be certain that when God wills that an undertaking succeed, delay never harms it;  there is always more of Him in proportion as there is less of ourselves it.                                                                                                                            –  St. Vincent de Paul

Let us not voluntarily dwell upon the faults of others when they present themselves to our minds;  instead of dwelling on them let us at once consider what there is of good in these persons.                                              – St. Teresa

According to the doctrine of the saints, one of the principal means to lead a Christian and exemplary life is to observe modesty of the eyes.    – Rodriguez

Let all thy care be to possess thy soul in peace and tranquility.  Let no accident be to thee a cause of ill humor.                             –  St. Vincent Ferrer

Steubenville bishop will head diocese of Joliet, Ill. :: Catholic News Agency (CNA)

Steubenville bishop will head diocese of Joliet, Ill. :: Catholic News Agency (CNA).

The above news is clouded by this report of 2007 from the popular blogging priest, Father Z:

“Since becoming bishop, he [Bishop Conlon] has had some formal requests for celebration of the Tridentine Mass.  Requests came from Belmont, Jefferson, Lawrence and Washington counties.  In each case, Bishop Conlon said he took the matter to the Presbyteral Council for discussion.  The priests’ advice there was not favorable for the celebrations, particularly out of fear that such rites would create a sense of division in the church.  [So, the faithful made requests.   The requests were not favored.]

Pope Benedict XVI’s letter and norms, which will take effect Sept. 14, for the wider celebration of the Tridentine Mass using the 1962 Roman Missal, should be received in a spirit of calm, Bishop Conlon said.  “I intend to take the matter a step at a time.  Obviously it took Pope Benedict some time [And we can perhaps conclude that Pope Benedict therefore was serious about issuing what he did, in the face of so many objections, which he considered unfounded.] to get to the point of issuing his letter.  I want to exercise the same degree of caution in implementing [A bishop is not the Pope of his diocese.  There is perhaps here functioning, perhaps… perhaps… an ecclesiology about particular churches can makes the implementation of some papal provisios less than imperative.] the norms in the Diocese of Steubenville.  Besides [What follows is the party line around which most are closing ranks] I do not anticipate a widespread public use of the 1962 missal because the Holy Father’s directives require” a group of faithful attached to the previous liturgical tradition, which exists stably.

Noted Bishop Conlon, “The people also have to remember that we are in the midst of a pastoral planning process, anticipating fewer parishes with fewer Masses, celebrated by fewer priests.”  [I think people demonstrating enthusiasm about attended any Mass, therefore, should be taken as a positive.  If a priest is willing to work to help these people, that should be seen as a positive]…..”

Universae Ecclesiae for the Feast of our Lady of Fatima

Some may ask, “What is the significance of the release date of May 13 for Universae Ecclesiae?”

Connect the dots, dear people.

May 13, 1917 – Our Lady came to give dire warnings to the Church.

Msgr. Eugene Pacelli, the future Pope Pius XII:

“I am worried by the Blessed Virgin’s messages to Lucy of Fatima. This persistence of Mary about the dangers which menace the Church is a divine warning against the suicide of altering the Faith, in Her liturgy, Her theology and Her soul. … I hear all around me innovators who wish to dismantle the Sacred Chapel, destroy the universal flame of the Church, reject Her ornaments and make Her feel remorse for Her historical past.”

Draw your own conclusions, but I believe the date to be a significant signal grace from our Lady of Fatima.   Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!

Here is the document Universae Ecclesiae:

File this under “I told you so.”

Just last week – on Monday, May 2, to be precise – a certain ‘learned persona’ was arguing with me that the Motu Propio Summorum Pontificum applied only to those “attached” to the TLM.   If he is of good will, I expect him to be willing to eat “humble pie”.  He wouldn’t believe me.  Perhaps he will believe the Pope’s Universae Ecclesiae.

I can’t wait for Friday the 13th!  Thank you dear Blessed Mother!!

Here is the article with the original found here.

The Vatican has announced that a new Instruction on the implementation of the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum, regarding the broader use of the traditional Latin Mass, will be released on Friday, May 13.

The long-awaited Instruction is entitled Universae Ecclesiae, the Vatican indicated in the May 11 announcement. The document will be released in several different languages.

Universae Ecclesiae is expected to strengthen the call by Pope Benedict XVI to make the traditional liturgy available to the faithful in every diocese. The new document will make it clear that pastors do not need further permission from their bishops in order to celebrate the Latin Mass, informed observers say.

Universae Ecclesiae will be published in the May 14 edition of the Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, the Vatican press office said. Because of the odd system used for the cover date of the newspaper, the May 14 edition is scheduled to appear in print on the afternoon of May 13.

Learned Liturgical Director says…

(The funny picture here was removed at the suggestion of frozencold, although I thought it was humorous!)    🙂

This fellow here, in his official capacity of “liturgical director” has informed me that the TLM and dinner at St. Rose is not a parish event –  this in spite of the fact that all proceeds from ticket sales are being donated to the parish and that we have not asked  one dime of them.

Please remember him in your prayers and at the collection.  It might just happen that when the collection basket comes around, we will suddenly remember, “Oh, gee, golly.  I suddenly recall that is not a parish event!  I guess I can put my wallet back!”

Save your hard-earned money and give instead to a Trad community of priests.  Maybe it’s time to shake the dust off our feet.

Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that he said we were “exploiting” the parish!  He took that back after I pointed out a few facts which gave the lie to his statement.
