The N.O. Missal, Contributing to the Loss of Faith

2angels_Propers TLMWhen fabricating the N.O., a great portion of the traditional orations of the Propers were discarded. From what remained, more than half were tampered with and revamped to express the alleged new human values of modern man, thus denying that human nature never has or will ever change, and that God’s eternal truths are binding for all times.

The new Propers/orations are banal and diluted of doctrinal content; it is no wonder that a great number of post-VII Catholics are so ignorant of the truths of our faith!

Below is the oration, the Collect, for the Feast of St. Pius V from the TLM missal. Notice the amount of doctrine compacted into this short prayer. Those assisting at the N.O. will never hear this:

“O God, who for the overthrowing of the enemies of Thy Church, and for the restoring of the beauty of Thy worship, didst choose blessed Pius as supreme Pontiff: grant that we may so cleave unto Thy service, that overcoming all the snares of our enemies, we may rejoice in Thy eternal peace.”

Just from that oration those who attend the TLM will know that the Church does have enemies, thus making us understand that not all men are of good will, and that some will always hate God and His Church; God selects great saints for the restoration – not reformation or renovation – of His Church; (And if one thinks about it, that person will be hated by the world.); that God wills to be worshiped with beauty; that in asking to “cleave” to His service, the loss of our faith and our salvation is possible; that enemies of the Church plot our destruction, and therefore we are in this life, engaged in mortal warfare; that there is an after-life of eternal peace for those who keep the Apostolic faith.

As Pope Leo XIII wrote in Apostolicae Curae, “They (innovators) knew only too well the intimate bond which unites faith with worship, ‘the law of belief with the law of prayer,’ so under the pretext of restoring it to its primitive form, they corrupted the order of the liturgy in many respects to adapt it to the errors of the Innovators.”

Let us continue to act and pray for the restoration of the TLM!

‘Mystery of Faith’

Is it any wonder that 2 out of 3 Catholics no longer believe in the Real Presence of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament?

In a news article of August 22, 2011, CNA purported to give an explanation for the responsorial acclamations by the laity to the ‘Mystery of Faith’.  According to the article, “[the] acclamation that responds….gives the assembly voice in the middle of the Eucharistic prayer” and “each [acclamation] recapitulates the deep mystery of our redemption by means of our Savior’s cross and resurrection”.

The acclamations – after the revisions of 2011 – are:

“We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection, until you come again.”

“When we eat this Bread and Drink this Cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord, until you come again.”

“Save us, Savior of the world, for by your Cross and Resurrection you have set us free.

+++++++++++++++++

Well, the words in the Canon, ‘Mystery of Faith’ were never meant to “recapitulate” the deep mystery of our redemption by the death of our Lord!

Rather, according to sacred tradition – which St. Alphonsus Liguori teaches is the guardian of Catholic truths – the expression is meant to spotlight the dogma of our faith in the Real Presence! The saint, in his book The Holy Eucharist, quotes Pope Innocent III (1198 – 1216): “Quoniam aliud ibi cernitur, aliud creditor.” (We see one thing, and believe another.)

The words of Consecration in the Canon of the TLM, are by Apostolic tradition, attributed to Our Lord Himself, says Innocent III. Their meaning, as the Roman catechism teaches (Council of Trent), is that bread is no longer bread, but the Body of Christ; wine is no longer wine, but the Blood of Christ.

sm_Mystery of FaithAs for “giving voice to the assembly”, the faithful were once taught to look upon, and silently adore the elevated Sacred Species with the expression of faith, “My Lord and my God!”

In the words of the late Michael Davies, “[T]he exodus of young people from our churches has been one of the most dramatic manifestations of the ‘Conciliar Church’, but as the nature of their true birthright is something of which they are kept in total ignorance they are hardly likely to lament its absence.”

Today is the Anniversary of ….

the Tuy revelations, June 13, 1929.  (Our Lord is still waiting for compliance with His requests.)

Sr. Lucia speaking: “I had requested and obtained permission from my superiors and confessor to make the Holy Hour from 11:00 p.m. until midnight from Thursday to Friday. Being alone one night, I knelt down before the communion rail in the middle of the chapel to say the prayers of the Angel, lying prostrate. Feeling tired, I got up and knelt and continued to say them with my arms in the form of a cross. The only light came from the sanctuary lamp.
June 13, 1929 theophany_Fatima
“Suddenly a supernatural light illuminated the whole chapel and on the altar appeared a cross of light which reached to the ceiling. In a brighter part could be seen, on the upper part of the cross, the face of a man and His body to the waist; On His breast was an equally luminous dove. And nailed to the cross, the body of another man. A little below the waist, suspended in midair, was to be seen a Chalice and a large Host onto which fell some drops of Blood from the face of the Crucified and from a wound in His breast. These drops ran down over the Host and fell into the Chalice.

“Under the right arm of the cross was Our Lady with Her Immaculate Heart in Her hand … (It was Our Lady of Fatima with Her Immaculate Heart … in Her left hand … without a sword or roses, but with a crown of thorns and flames …)

“Under the left arm (of the cross), some big letters as it were of crystal clear water running down over the Altar, formed these words: ‘Grace and Mercy’. I understood that it was the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity that was shown to me, and I received lights about this mystery which I am not permitted to reveal.

“Then Our Lady said to me:

“‘The moment has come when God asks the Holy Father to make, in union with all the bishops of the world, the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart, promising to save it by this means. So numerous are the souls which the justice of God condemns for the sins committed against Me, that I come to ask you for reparation. Sacrifice yourself for this intention and pray.’

“Later on, by means of an interior communication, Our Lord said to me, complaining:

“‘They did not want to heed My request! … Like the King of France they will repent and do it, but it will be late. Russia will have already spread its errors throughout the world, provoking wars and persecution against the Church: the Holy Father will have much to suffer.”‘

 ++++++++++++

Suggested resolution for today:  I will offer up all of my activities today, done in a spirit of sacrifice, in reparation for offenses committed against the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, and for the fulfillment of our Lord’s desires that Russia be consecrated as He wants.

Update on This Site’s Activity

There’s been what appears to be a lull around here.

But, we are still actively working for the growth of the TLM.  Anyone looking into the page for Understanding the Theology of the TLM, might notice that modifications are being made to the posts there.  I am revising, adding bits of info, making overall improvements, and correcting typos I had not noticed before.

We’ve started a FB page on which these posts are being loaded.  It promises to be a fruitful endeavor. In the one week that we have posted, we have reached 3,313 viewers! Considering that we have not made much of an effort to collect “friends”, this is great!

Placet_KankakeeTLM

If you are on FB and would like to help educate our fellow Catholics with a better understanding of what the Mass is supposed to be, check out Understanding the Theology of the TLM on Facebook – and share. God reward you for doing your part for the restoration of our beautiful, traditional Latin Mass!

Comments which are pugnacious or derogatory of the TLM will promptly be deleted, and the guilty  persons will be blocked.

Catholic Identity Conference – Fighting Back!

“…I don’t think there’s ever been a wider spectrum of conservative/traditional Catholics coming together at the same conference. We hope to make this a really big deal, which may even evolve into some sort of Catholic defense organization against Christophobia down the road. So, please, share this with your friends and families, and let’s start fighting back!” –  Michael J. Mat of the Remnant.

Historical Find of Importance for Church Music!

Since I love Baroque music, I find this most recent  bit of news quite exciting!  I can’t wait until sales of the music goes public. The youtube is in Spanish, but I have translated enough so that one can get an idea of what is  transpiring.

++++

The collection of choir books from the National Museum of the Viceroyalty (MNV), composed of 90 copies dating from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries, is undergoing work of conservation, cataloging and digitizing, in order to ensure its preservation and to make their contents available.  They have remained protected for several centuries between large, wood sheets. Work has begun with attention to 14 pieces of priceless works of art and music.

Now kept in the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), these New Spain and European volumes of musical works were once used for the religious celebrations of the colonial era in Mexico, and are considered to be the most important collection of its kind at the INAH.

Strange. Two Popes Collaborating

The following is our English translation from a post at La Buhardilla Jerónimo.  The original source is Diócesis de Molfetta.

"two popes" ?

During these months, Italian bishops are continuing with their extensive ad limina visits which began during the last weeks of the pontificate of Benedict XVI: there are, in fact, 226 dioceses in Italy. Pope Francis, in meeting today with all of the Italian Episcopal Conference in St. Peter’s Basilica, on the occasion of the Year of Faith, besides delivering a  programmatic discourse to the pastors of the Church in Italy, spontaneously, also referred to the need of reducing the number of dioceses, for which end a working commission is already in progress, and also [pointed to] the fact that dialogue with the political, social, and cultural institutions is the duty of the Italian bishops (thus, in this way, clearly illustrating    what will be the line  followed by his pontificate in this regard).

Now, however, we will allow ourselves to reveal a few short paragraphs taken from the letter that an Italian bishop, Monsignor Luigi Martella, wrote to the faithful of his diocese after his ad limina meeting with the Holy Father which divulges an important statement mentioned by the Pope at that time to the bishops regarding an upcoming encyclical on faith, as well as the next encyclical that the Pope already has in mind to write.

*****

[Bishop Martella writing] I’ve seen this man of God, very brave and kind but conscious of his fragility, and that is why he entrusts himself to our prayers. Twice he has told me, “Pray for me!”  He has felt very gratified when we mention that we love him very much, and that our people are admired because of him, that he is surrounded by great affection. He has avoided it, saying it was not his doing but a gift of God. He has not stopped showing his lively humor in the face of the question: “Holiness, how are you? How are you doing here?” He, with a smile on his lips, said, “As I saw the votes in the conclave rising, I have not lost peace. So, I sleep well here.”  Immediately after, he added, “But there is much to do.”  We have encouraged him to continue on this line because we are with him.

Then he spoke very tenderly of Benedict XVI, “When I met him for the first time at Castel Gandolfo, I noticed that he had a most lucid memory” – he said – “even if he was very tired physically. “Now, he is definitely better.”  Finally, he wanted to reveal a confidence, almost a revelation. Benedict is finishing writing the encyclical on faith to be signed by Pope Francisco. Then he himself will try to prepare his first encyclical on the poor: Beati pauperes! Poverty – he has determined – understood not in an ideological and political sense, but in the sense of the Gospel.”

*****

Our comment here at Kankakee TLM, by Fiat: “I refuse to believe that I have two Fathers.  If Benedict abdicated, why is he still writing encyclicals? Didn’t he say he was going to retire to a life of prayer and seclusion?”

Man proposes, but God disposes; Happiness

May 22, 2013: I’ve added a note of interest at the bottom of the page regarding Frederick’s father.

I want to tell you where my thoughts have been today.  Yesterday’s event has brought to mind that teaching from the Imitation of Christ:  “For man proposes, but God disposes; neither is the way of man in his own hands.”

Yesterday was a perfect day, a lovely day for doing something special with one of my sons who enjoys traipsing around Chicago.  Since we happened to be in the vicinity, he wanted to tour a historic house of Frank Lloyd Wright design, completed in 1910.  But before I tell you about the house, first, imagine a young, newly married, 23 year-old man, sitting on top of the world.  At 29, he contracts the biggest name in architecture to custom-design a one-million-dollar-plus home for his wife and two children.  Of course, in the early 1900’s, the actual cost was not 1 million, but that would be the equivalent in today’s costs. The young man was Frederick C. Robie, and the grand house he had built still sits at 5757 Woodlawn Avenue, up a little ways from the Shrine of the Institute of Christ the King.  If it hadn’t been for my son, the thought of going on a tour of this house would never have entered my mind.  But it was interesting, and for me, the human element was most thought-provoking.

Robie House woodlawn avenue

Recall that in 1910, many houses still had outhouses, coal heating, and well-water.  This house is a solid, two-layers-of-brick, three level structure, built with conveniences and advancements unheard of at the time: a two-car attached garage, built-in vacuuming system, water heating,  a shower stall, electrical wiring throughout, and light bulbs all over the place at the time when the incandescent light bulb was still a wonder to behold.  There is a nursery, children’s playroom (which is the basement), servants’ quarters, and a rather large kitchen for the time. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Actually, the style is not to my taste, but there were elements that I really liked, as for example the numerous French-doors on the second floor which allowed so much light to stream in, and which provided multiple access ways to the veranda. The large, extended, overhanging eaves protected the house from the hot, direct sun.

robie woodlawn ave 07

But the tragedy of it all, is that the Robie family only lived there about 14 months. They had moved into the home in 1910, shortly after Frederick’s father’s death in 1909.  It turned out that Frederick’s “inheritance” was his father’s heavy debt.  In order to pay the creditors, he sold the family business (His father, George T. Robie, a son of German immigrants, founded the Excelsior Supply Company in Chicago.)  Since Frederick had worked for him, now he also found himself without a job.

His wife, Lora, left him in April of 1911, taking the two children with her.  Equipped with a teaching degree, she went back to her hometown of Springfield,IL where she taught school to support herself and the children. Frederick sold the house in December, and after she divorced him in 1912, he went to New York where he worked as a car salesman.

So you see, why I have been thinking of Kempis’s “Man proposes, but God disposes”?  Man often has grandiose plans for his earthly happiness, but there is no human being who ever attains and enjoys everything he wishes.  The truly happy man is precisely he who can say that he has nothing to bind him to this earth, neither in actual possession, nor in desired ones. Our goal as Catholics is to aspire to become rich in the love of Christ, for the Imitation says, “Love longs to be free, a stranger to every worldly desire, lest its inner vision become dimmed, and lest worldly self-interest hinder it or ill-fortune cast it down. Nothing is sweeter than love, nothing stronger, nothing higher, nothing wider, nothing more pleasant, nothing fuller or better in heaven or earth; for love is born of God, and can rest only in God above all created things.”

Paradoxically, we will be happy with a joy of the heart which is expansive and uplifting. This kind of happiness is a virtue that with a little effort on our part, may be used to lighten the burdens of others and to spread good cheer!

cause of our JoyOh! Mary, cause of our joy, pray for us!

Note:  Interestingly, there is mention of a George T. Robie in a Masonic publication (The American Tyler-keystone: Devoted to Masonry and Its Concerdant Others,Vol. 13) of February 1, 1899 which lists him as being one of several chairmen in charge of the Masonic Chicago Knights Templar charity ball.  Perhaps Frederick escaped the snares of this satanic cult.  I do not find his name associated with Masonic lodges.

Memento, homo, quia pulvis es et in pulverem reverteris.

THEOLOGY OF THE TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS #37

“And I will give them one heart, and will put a new spirit in their bowels: and I will take away the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 11:19).

After Jesus ascended into heaven, He sent the Holy Ghost to establish the Church, His Mystical Body, and to apply to Her the fruits of the Redemption. By His descent upon the early Community under the form of tongues of fire, the Holy Ghost indicates that He comes as the Spirit of Charity for the transformation of stony hearts into hearts of flesh. On that Pentecost Sunday, God established the perfect Society, and there and then, He impelled Peter and the rest of the Apostles to go forth throughout the entire world preaching Christ crucified, repentance for the remission of sins, and the establishment of Christ’s reign over all nations.

Having received of the graces merited by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the Mass, we also should now go out into the world radiating the goodness with which we have been blessed, devoting ourselves to our daily duty with joy and peace, and according to our state of life, performing the corporal and spiritual works of Mercy.

With His gifts, the Divine Paraclete enlightens the intellect and strengthens the will to enable us to do supernatural acts. Trying to advance on our own human initiative along the path of sanctity will only prove futile because we would be acting in a purely natural way towards a supernatural end. Since the Paraclete is the third Person of the Trinity, He operates within us in a divine manner. It is only with the aid of the Holy Ghost that one is able to fulfill the two greatest commandments of God: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind…thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself” (Matthew 22:37-39).

We see that the spiritual life is not an entirely personal, individualistic matter.  Fr. Fahey writes in The Kingship of Christ and Organized Naturalism, “[A]ll Christ’s members form one organism under Christ, battling for the Divine Order of the world” and “The whole body grows in charity and union with Christ, when each part supplies what it is destined to give, according to its position and function.”  The most charitable thing we could do for our non-believing “neighbors” is to sacrifice ourselves in union with Christ for the transformation of society, such that the supernatural life of grace entrusted to Holy Mother Church, may more easily be discerned and grasped by those most in peril of damnation.

Prayer: “Lord Jesus Christ, who didst send the Holy Ghost upon Thy disciples when they continued praying; cleanse, I beseech Thee, my heart from all sin, that there, the same Holy Ghost may always dwell with His manifold gifts.  Come down into my soul, O consuming Fire! Reproduce in me the likeness of the Incarnate Word, and maketh of me a docile instrument by which He might continue to work amongst men.  Come, O Holy Spirit, possess me, enlighten, fortify and console me in trials and in sorrows. Then, at the end of this mortal life, deign to lead me Home, therein to dwell in eternal and perfect happiness.”  Amen.

Manifestations of a Loving Mother: Our Lady of Fatima

Inez Romero's facebook picture FatimaIt is the feast of our Lady of Fatima!

When our Lady spoke about the triumph of her Immaculate Heart, she certainly was not referring to an utopian era of secular, man-oriented, self-sufficiency and benevolent co-existence amongst peoples of conflicting ideologies and creeds.

St. Louse de Montfort prophesized that just as it was through our Lady that Christ entered the world, so it will be through her that He will be made manifest again.  St. Maximilian Kolbe said this:  “The serpent raises his head over the whole earth, but the Immaculata is going to crush him through decisive victories..[u]nder the standard of the Immaculata a great battle will be waged, and we shall have Her banners float over the fortresses of the prince of darkness.”  He also wrote, “Then heresies and schisms will be extinguished, and hardened sinners, thanks to the Immaculata, will return to God, towards His Heart full of love, and all pagans will be baptized.” The Abbé de Nantes believed that in the era of peace, chapters 60 and 62 of Isaiah would be fulfilled. One such passage reads thus: “…the children of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister to thee: for in my wrath have I struck thee, and in my reconciliation have I had mercy upon thee.” The radiance of the Church will then diffuse throughout the entire world a divine influence capable of shaping  all facets of society.  Glorious peace from the hands of Our Lady!  Who amongst us now living will be graced to see Christ being proclaimed our King and the Immaculata alongside Him, Queen of the whole world?

Let us do our part to hasten the Triumph of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart! Consecrate yourselves to her and be docile to her inspirations.  I have taken it upon myself to offer my every Sunday Communion in reparation for offenses committed against her. Our Lord will also inspire you to do a little extra.  It is not only Protestants who insult her.  Most hurtful to her must be those misguided Catholics who distort or ignore her loving admonitions.

Here us another idea: Make it a point to learn more about Fatima.  Volumes upon volumes have been written.  Fatima is not merely a pious call to recitation of the rosary as some would have it.  The presentation below is rather lengthy, but it is chock-full of very important information about our Lady’s warning of altering the liturgy.
